(1 Corinthians 9:25) Father, You are a great Artist and Creator. You didn’t design this world with apathy or automation, but with intentionality, creativity, and intricate attention to detail. Because of this, God, throughout our lives, we can see many examples of Your hand and Your design. Sports are one of these areas—they paint a picture of the greater battle we face every day as eternal beings. As Paul points out in 1 Corinthians 9, athletics and physical training give us an example of what it looks like to work for something, to strive for a larger goal. In their sport, ___ is striving for something material, something temporary—maybe a trophy, maybe pride, maybe a future scholarship. Whatever the specific “prize” is that awaits ___ at the end of this season, God, You have something bigger. You have something better in mind for ___ and their life. Keep their eyes fixed on that “victor’s crown,” Lord. Expand ___’s perspective and motivation to see that prize on the horizon. Align their steps in the direction of Your everlasting reward, the treasure only found in Your Kingdom. Through Your Spirit, God, equip ___ to always strive for that crown that will last forever. Amen.
